PATRICIA A. KECK:

Born Rogers, Arkansas October 8, 1954.  Admitted to bars: Missouri and Arkansas 1992 and Kansas 1993.  Education: University of Arkansas (B.S.E. 1977, M.E.D. 1987, J.D. 1991 with Honors). Academic Memberships: University of Arkansas Law Review (1990-91) and Law Review Editorial Board (1991), Law Journal publication of “Only Those Who Die Young Fail to Grow Old”; Current Memberships: Missouri, Arkansas, and Kansas Bar Associations, the Federal Courts in Missouri and Arkansas and the Springfield Metropolitan and American Bar Associations. After gaining experience as a teacher and coach, Ms. Keck began her legal career with the Springfield law firm of Schroff, Glass & Newberry PC; where she made partner after only 3 years.  She then became a partner in the Newberry, Haden, Cowherd, Bullock & Keck firm that formed after the retirement of Bob Schroff.  In 2002, Jim Newberry and Ms. Keck formed the firm of Newberry & Keck LLC so that Mr. Newberry could pursue a mediation practice.  Ms. Keck then went out on her own forming the Keck & Carter LLC firm in 2004.   Her partner, Craig Carter, was appointed by Governor Blunt to the post of Judge in Douglas County the following year, so the firm changed names when her current partner, Kevin Austin, joined her in her practice. Ms. Keck has extensive trial experience in civil litigation in the areas of entity and individual insurance defense, Civil Rights issues, public entity liability, employment law, and sexual harassment.  She has tried over 50 cases in these areas in the past several years.  

KEVIN L. AUSTIN:

Born St. Louis, Missouri, June 24, 1965.   Admitted to bar:  Missouri (1996); Education: Missouri State University (1988), University of Missouri School of Law (1996) where he was named a Member of the Order of Coif (top 10% of law students in the Nation).  Academic Membership: University of Missouri Law Review.  Current Memberships: Federal Courts, Missouri Bar Association, Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association,  Law Day Committee, Continuing Legal Education Committee, and Member of the Board for the City of Springfield Fire and Pension Fund. Mr. Austin is a life-long resident of Springfield, Missouri, where he has raised his family and practiced law primarily with the defense firm of Blackwell, Sanders, Peper & Martin.  He joined Ms. Keck in 2005 when they formed the firm of Keck & Austin LLC. Mr. Austin has been elected to the position of Missouri State Representative and began serving his term in January of 2013. Mr. Austin has trial and civil litigation defense experience in the areas of personal injury, business, and public entity liability and also has extensive trial experience.

M. SEAN McGINNIS (Of Counsel):

Born May 30, 1959, and raised in Springfield, Missouri.  Admitted to Missouri bar in 1984.  Education:  Drury College (B.A. Business Administration, 1981; B.A. Economics, 1981; B.A. Political Science, 1981), University of Missouri-Columbia (J.D. 1984).  Current Memberships:  Missouri Bar Association, and the Federal Courts. Mr. McGinnis primarily has practiced as a civil defense attorney.  He started his law experience in 1984 with the Turner, Reid, Duncan, Loomer, & Patton, P.C. law firm where he worked his way up to a partnership with the firm and was involved in all aspects of civil litigation.  He moved to the firm of Haden, Cowherd, Bullock, Keck & McGinnis to become a partner in 1998; where again his primary focus was the defense practice in civil litigation.  During these same periods of time, Sean has served as General Counsel for the Missouri Democratic Party and as Special City Attorney for the City of Branson, Missouri.   Sean has also served on the Board of Curators for the University of Missouri, a Commissioner of the Missouri State Fair and as a Member, Board of Directors, and General Counsel for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield.

WARFORD TRACE JOHNSON  (Of Counsel):

Born May 6, 1973 and raised in Southwest Missouri.  Admitted to Missouri Bar 2000.  Education: Southern Methodist University (BA Anthropology and Philosophy), South Texas College of Law (J.D. 2000). Current Memberships: Missouri Bar, Missouri Federal Courts, Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association (current Board Member), The Defense Research Institute, Claims Litigation Management, Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, Springfield Claims Association.  Professional Awards: 40 Under 40: Springfield Business Journal, Up and Coming Lawyer: Missouri Lawyers Weekly, Rising Star: Kansas and Missouri Super Lawyers). Mr. Johnson started his law experience with the well-known defense firm of Daniel, Clampett, Powell & Cunningham, LLC and has continued his legal practice in the areas of public entity, personal injury, employment law, construction litigation and real estate litigation defense.  From Daniel-Clampett, Mr. Johnson moved to Wallace, Sanders, Austin, Brown & Enochs, Chartered in 2002 and to Baird, Lightner, Millsap & Harpool, P.C. in 2010.  While at the Baird-Lightner firm Mr. Johnson’s practice focused primarily in the defense of public entities and personal injury litigation until he joined the Keck & Austin firm in August of 2012.  Here at Keck & Austin Mr. Johnson continues his practice in the defense of public entities and personal injury defense litigation.    Mr. Johnson has extensive experience in litigated maters and research and writing of motions for summary judgment and appeals. 

DAMON S. PHILLIPS  (Of Counsel):

Born September 5, 1975 and raised in Springfield, Missouri.  Admitted to Missouri Bar 2003.  Education: Missouri State University (BS Political Science and Legal Studies), University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law (J.D. 2003).  Current Memberships: Missouri Bar Association and Federal Courts.  Mr. Phillips began his legal career in Springfield, Missouri at the Greene County Prosecutor's Office.  Mr. Phillips was first assigned to the Civil/Traffic Division, where he prosecuted motor vehicle incidents ranging from traffic tickets to vehicular fatalities.  Mr. Phillips later worked in the Property and Major Crime Units.  Mr. Phillips was the Prosecutor's representative to the Underage Drinking Task Force and Gang Task Force programs of the Community Partnership of the Ozarks; and also the Prosecutor’s representative to the Greene County Planning & Zoning Committee, Greene County Drug Court, and Greene County DWI Court.  Mr. Phillips joined the law firm of Whiteaker & Wilson, PC in 2010.  Mr. Phillips focused on individual and entity insurance defense at that firm, and became a member of the Springfield Missouri Bar Association and Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers.  Mr. Phillips joined Keck & Austin in 2014.  Here, Mr. Phillips continues to focus on individual and entity insurance defense, as well as some transactional and general civil litigation. 

MATTHEW D. WILSON  (Of Counsel):

Admitted to bars: Missouri (2007) and Kansas (2008).  Education:  University of Mississippi, Bachelor of Business Administration with emphases in Marketing and International Business, 2002; University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, Juris Doctor, Magna Cum Laude, 2007.  Academic Memberships:  University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Review, 2007.  Current Memberships: Missouri and Kansas Bar Associations, Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association.            Mr. Wilson began his career at the Supreme Court of Missouri as a law clerk to the Honorable Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr.  He then practiced with a large metropolitan law firm before moving to a mid-sized firm in Springfield, where he focused on municipal liability, business litigation and injury defense.  He has also served as Assistant General Counsel to a multinational S&P 500 company, where he oversaw the handling of a variety of business disputes, employment cases, regulatory compliance issues and general liability matters, both in the United States and abroad.  Since joining Keck & Austin, Mr. Wilson’s practice has focused on the representation of businesses and public entities for all aspects of employment law and general liability defense.
